Somewhere New, Together: A Batu Tampih Honeymoon

 

A small yellow flower sits between them. Hadil smiles up at Mohammed, their hands gathered around a detail that could easily disappear inside a much larger landscape. Around them, green groundcover spreads across the coastal slope at Batu Tampih. For a moment, this little flower holds the centre of the photograph.


It feels like a fitting place to begin their honeymoon story.


When asked to choose one memory from their first visit to Bali, Mohammed and Hadil found it difficult to name a single event. What stayed with them was the experience of being together: discovering places, laughing, taking photographs, and trying things they had never tried before.


Photographed by Yayak, founder of Studio 8 Bali, their Batu Tampih honeymoon photoshoot brings that feeling into a landscape of green paths, dark sand, and open sea.

From Norway to somewhere new


Palestinian and based in Norway, Mohammed and Hadil wanted their honeymoon to feel different from everyday life. They were looking for somewhere beautiful and peaceful, with room for culture, adventure, and romance.


Bali brought those possibilities together.


Their first impression was simple: “wow.” They remembered the island feeling alive, from its natural surroundings and people to the little details they noticed along the way. Its variety surprised them most. One day could feel luxurious and peaceful; another could bring an entirely different kind of excitement.


They wanted to create memories they would carry with them for years. Their Palestinian roots, which they described with pride, are part of the story they bring wherever they travel. Their life together is based in Norway. Now, their first journey to Bali has a place in that story too.

Batu Tampih, one of Yayak’s favourite locations


Batu Tampih Beach lies in Tabanan, along the same stretch of Bali’s coastline as Tanah Lot. It is one of Yayak’s favourite locations to photograph, and this collection gives a sense of the variety that draws him here.


Green coastal slopes and narrow paths offer one setting. The shoreline brings another: dark sand, exposed rocks, textured surfaces, and light reflected across the water. Together, these surroundings allow a couple’s photographs to move between an intimate, sheltered feeling and the openness of the coast.


For Mohammed and Hadil, Yayak photographed both sides of Batu Tampih. Wide views give their first Bali visit a sense of place, while closer portraits hold onto the expressions and gestures that make the collection distinctly theirs.

The little things among the greenery


Hadil’s olive dress and pale headscarf sit naturally against the green landscape, alongside Mohammed’s white T-shirt and neutral trousers. Their clothing keeps the palette simple, leaving space for their faces and movements to carry the photographs.


They walk hand in hand along a narrow path, turning towards one another. In closer frames, Hadil rests against Mohammed, his arm around her shoulders. The small yellow flower appears between their hands, bringing a playful detail into the series.


These photographs echo the way they described their honeymoon. Their favourite memories were woven through the experience of discovering a place together—laughing, trying something new, and recognising the beginning of married life in moments that might otherwise pass quickly.

Golden light on the Tabanan coast


By the shore, the textures and colours change. Weathered concrete and trailing dry foliage frame the portraits, while dark rocks break up the reflective surface of the water.


Their second outfits belong comfortably within this setting. Mohammed wears a patterned short-sleeved shirt with light trousers; Hadil pairs a white blouse with a brown skirt and her pale headscarf.


Yayak’s photographs bring attention to both the landscape and their closeness within it. There are portraits of the two leaning together beside the weathered wall, smiling on the rocky shore, and walking through shallow water. In one frame, their profiles meet against a glowing sky. In another, the coastline stretches around them as they hold each other.


Batu Tampih gives the photographs their distinctive surroundings. Mohammed and Hadil give them their personal meaning.

A way back to the feeling


Asked about their favourite part of the photoshoot, they spoke about what the photographs would let them remember: how it felt to be newly married, in Bali, and together.


“The photos allow us to look back and remember not only how we looked, but how we felt at that exact moment.”


The flower, the green paths, and the golden shoreline now belong to that memory. At one of Yayak’s favourite beaches, Mohammed and Hadil made a record of their own first encounter with Bali.
